Yes, “The Hunger” is the last worthy MICHAEL BOLTON album before becoming a balladry-man, featuring a mix of AOR rockers and popy radio ballads. Despite being a great songwriter himself, wisely Bolton employed a new set of collaborators for the album.
These include members of Journey Jonathan Cain (co-writing, playing keyboards and producing) and Neal Schon playing guitar. More songwriting contributions come from Bob Halligan Jr., Martin Briley, and pop-rock queen Diane Warren. The result was platinum sales and a firm place in the middle of the road to mainstream solo artist.
The cast of musicians is stellar – Schon, Cain, Bruce Kulick, Bob Halligan Jr., bassist Randy Jackson, Mike Baird, Jeff Bova, on backing vocals Joe Lynn Turner, David Glen Eisley, Joe Cerisano, and more.
“Gina” is an absolute ’80s AOR classic, worth getting the album for this track alone.
