On 11 February 2000, Oasis kicked off their Standing on the Shoulder of Giants world tour on the BBC Television Centre’s Later… with Jools Holland. Not only was the show their first performance of the new millennium, it was also the official debut of a new line-up featuring bassist Andy Bell and rhythm guitarist Gem Archer, following the internal turmoil caused by the departures of Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs and Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan. It was a major turning point for the band. The BBC also gave Oasis exclusive airtime for the entire episode, a remarkable achievement that demonstrated the band’s huge impact on the British music scene. It also gave fans a sneak peek at their new album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and the rekindled chemistry of the reunited band.
