LIDELL, RUSH & THRALL – The Unreleased 1988

Yesterday we featured Tony Liddle / Lidell lovely album of ’80s recordings, now we bring a rarity and a must listen for fans of ’80s Melodic Hard Rock / AOR: the unreleased 1988 recordings by LIDELL, RUSH & THRALL.
As the name suggests the band was a collaboration between one-time Strangeways / Tygers Of Pan Tang vocalist Tony Liddell, Billy Rush (Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes) and the legendary Pat Thrall (Meatloaf, Asia, Hughes/Thrall).

By 1988, when Tony Liddle was in England, he joined guitarist Billy Rush to write some songs, and soon Pat Thrall joined, interested in the commercial yet classic rock material in the making. They recorded many of the songs to shopping labels, however, and while there were interest, Thrall wasn’t willing to wait and toured with Jack Bruce for the rest of the year. The LIDELL, RUSH & THRALL project was shelved… until 2001, when British hard rock label Z Records contacted the musicians about the music recorded back 1988.

Thrall said in 2001: “I’d done a demo in 1988 with Tony Liddell (sic) from the British band Strangeways. I moved on after the failed attempt at getting signed and played with Jack Bruce for the rest of the year. This month, it got signed to Z Records… 13 years later! Go figure… so the original producer sends me the master tapes and asks me to transfer the tracks into Pro Tools and make them presentable to be released. I spent several days in the time capsule doing my best to conjure a true metal sound of the ’80s… something I never thought I would be doing in the year 2001.”
One track was released as advance into a Z Records sampler, but when the LIDELL, RUSH & THRALL album was about to finally be released, it got back in the shelf again after some problems with the original producer. The album remain unreleased until now.

Here we have in exclusive at the only officially released track ‘Layin’ Down The Law’ plus some others taken from the 1988 demo (not the finished mix by Thrall), plus some Tony Liddle’s solo unreleased demos.
