Maplerun – Restless (2012)

Posted on October 9, 2012 in Alt Rock,Prog Metal by Alex F

Maplerun is a band that has made all the right choices in their musical career so far. They formed in 2007 and worked on releasing their first album called “House on Fire”. Then when the opportunity presented itself they grabbed it by the hair. They had the chance and the privilege to tour Europe with the great Shadow Gallery. After the tour they released a DVD and then started working on their second album. Having completed their national service, they are back to devote themselves to the band.
The first news for the album is in the same good direction. Ted Jensen was behind the mastering (Metallica, Linkin Park) who has been busy this year in Greece also working for September Code’s  “Remembering Mirrors”. The really nice cover art was crerated by Travis Smith who has also made covers for bands like Opeth and Nevermore.

EMPERORS OF WYOMING – EMPERORS OF WYOMING 2012

Posted on October 8, 2012 in Alt Rock,Rock by Alex F

NOW!

Are you fed up listening to Bob Dylan as he mumbles through yet another set of songs? Does your Tom Petty collection mostly collect dust nowadays? Can’t find anything remarkable with Neil Young or Jackson Browne as of lately? Still in shock over the deaths of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and the whole darn project of the Traveling Wilburys? Look no further as this might just be the album that will once again have you believing in traditional U.S. rock and Americana. Nothing remotely new, fancy, or fresh, just darn good and sweet.

Emperors of Wyoming is the new project/band featuring Butch Vig. Well known internationally for producing classic albums such as Nirvana’s Nevermind, Smashing Pumpkin’s Siamese Dream, Sonic Youth’s Dirty, Green Day, etc. Not to forget for being the drummer and founding member of Garbage. Along side him on this record are the Anderson brothers (Pete -bass, Frank -guitar, lap/pedal steel dito) of cult Bay Area rockers Call Me Bwana, and former Fire Town vocalist/guitarist Phil Davis.

Raushi – High Tides Collide (2012)

Posted on October 7, 2012 in Alt Rock by Alex F

RAUSHI (sounds like “RUSH-HIGH)” front woman, Dani Raushi, is living, breathing, singing proof that when fueled by the formidable flame of focused passion and an un forfeiting work ethic, a dream seed spark can and will erupt into a tangible reality.

For RAUSHI, music is a poetic tool with the capacity to take the negative energies that often surround life’s mentally and emotionally challenging situations, which in the case of the new album “HIGH TIDES COLLIDE”, involve inescapable desire and overwhelming betrayal, and transform them into positive release. With a lyrical flow of clever puns, the album unapologetically exposes over-consumption driven by ones experiences when placed in the volatile frameworks of consuming love as a result of human nature.

DOUG RATNER & THE WATCHMEN – LESSONS WELL LEARNED EP 2012

Posted on October 6, 2012 in All Exclusive,Alt Rock,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

NOW!

Hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Doug Ratner & the Watchmen’s main claim to fame is getting banned from a popular TV show, Mass Appeal, in their hometown, for their song Bomb in the Backseat. It appears the show neither listened to the song nor understood it’s meaning. They only heard the references to bombs and explosions. O well.Ratner and company play a blend of classic guitar rock with some modern alt references. Here’s the skinny on their debut EP Lessons Well Learned. First, if you give it more than a few spins, it will grow on you. But the significant songs are three.

Traverser – Redshift (2012)

Posted on October 4, 2012 in Alt Rock,Progressive Rock by Alex F

After its stint with Octave Match Records, Traverser decided to create and produce this record entirely on their own.  The unique aspect of this is that they requested fan donations that would help the band pay for equipment and other costs of making an album.  Traverser’s loyal, underground fanbase were very generous in helping them reach their financial goals and they created their latest offering entitled “Redshift”.
