MICHAEL ADDISON – Blinding Shadows 2012

Posted on October 6, 2012 in All Exclusive,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

NOW!

Michael Addison is set to release his first full-length album “Blinding Shadows” on October 2nd, 2012. Reeling from the success he garnered from his last EP “Always You” and the single of the same name, he hit the studio with producer Larry Marciano at the helm, to create a truly powerful rock album that magnifies Addison’s talent for rock arrangements. Addison returned to the studio with the same team from his previous go-round. Christine Wu (Justin Timberlake/Usher) and Ryan Hoyle (Collective Soul), as well as newcomers, vocalist’s Adam Brooks (of TV’s “The Lying Game” and the band The Good Mad) and Vanessa Bryan each exhibit exceptional contributions.

DOUG RATNER & THE WATCHMEN – LESSONS WELL LEARNED EP 2012

Posted on October 6, 2012 in All Exclusive,Alt Rock,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

NOW!

Hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Doug Ratner & the Watchmen’s main claim to fame is getting banned from a popular TV show, Mass Appeal, in their hometown, for their song Bomb in the Backseat. It appears the show neither listened to the song nor understood it’s meaning. They only heard the references to bombs and explosions. O well.Ratner and company play a blend of classic guitar rock with some modern alt references. Here’s the skinny on their debut EP Lessons Well Learned. First, if you give it more than a few spins, it will grow on you. But the significant songs are three.

SEVEN KINGDOMS – THE FIRE IS MINE 2012

Posted on October 6, 2012 in Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

Seven Kingdoms commitment to melodic power metal continues on their third release, The Fire Is Mine. Led by the clear and passionate vocals of Sabrina Valentine’s vocals, Seven Kingdom effortlessly combines speed and heaviness with melody to invigorate the American power metal genre.

There’s little more to be said about Valentine’s vocal prowess that wasn’t said in my review of 2010’sSeven Kingdoms. She remains the classic female metal vocalist, singing clean and strong, but also avoiding the extremes of outrageously operatic or gruesome growling. (It appears, overall, that the band has abandoned the growling found briefly in their last release.)

THE COMO BROTHERS BAND – THE SPEED OF SOUND EP (2012)

Posted on October 6, 2012 in All Exclusive,Indie Rock,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

TODAY!

Long Island based Como Brothers seem a little conflicted on their new EP, The Speed of Sound. Sandwiched between the positive chick songs You Are My World and Can I Be Matched With You is a nearly vitriolic rant against an unfortunate gal, I Don’t Like You.

I’m hoping, maybe, that first song is about one of the brother’s pet dog or infant daughter, and the last about online dating services, as one Como bro seems pretty pissed about some chick. Otherwise, The Como Brothers Band is about some very good music. It has a foundation of classic melodic rock, with a touch of blues, and enough alt-indie edge to make the hipsters take notice. It’s nearly raw,

ISSA – Can’t Stop (2012)

Posted on October 3, 2012 in Hard Rock,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

One of the best female voices coming out lately from Scandivia is without a doubt Norwegian singer ISSA (full name: Isabell Oversveen). Her third album entitled “Can’t Stop” has been set for release on November 5.”Can’t Stop” is a very special album for Issa, since it includes some blistering versions of carefully selected AOR gems that the singer treats her own way.
These tracks have been originally included on albums by MARK FREE, AVIATOR, 21 GUNS, ATLANTIC, REGATTA, WORRALL, BLVD, TOWER CITY and other AOR luminaries.
Issa has created her own style and approach to Melodic Rock & AOR genres by mixing her peculiar, unique melodic sensibility and commercial sheen with a rocking attitude.

JIMI JAMISON – Never Too Late (2012)

Posted on October 2, 2012 in Hard Rock,Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F

Last year legend JIMI JAMISON started to work together with Swedish songwriter and producer Erik Martensson (W.E.T., Eclipse, etc.) laying down the foundations for his new solo album “Never Too Late”, to be released on November 2nd in Europe and November the 6th in North America.

The process took a good part of 2011 and 2012 to be completed, but the final results shine.
This is truly a monumental Melodic Rock album, where the stunning contemporary Melodic Rock songwriting of Martensson meets Jamison’s superb vocal abilities and a massive production.
“Never Too Late” rocks really hard at times; probably the heaviest Jamison has ever been involved, still the melodies are going to haunt you and stay in your mind for a long time.
