Somewhere between endearing nostalgia and eerily sterile earnestness, the self-titled debut by Swedish quintet Gin Lady offers an accurate, yet somewhat stultified impression from the 70s hard rock template. Hefty grooves, catchy melodies, and authentic-sounding restorations of the early 70s sound are all geared to recreate the golden days of Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Blue Oyster Cult. But what’s lacking are the prototypes’ virtuosic chops, galvanizing songwriting and the spirit of discovery. Recorded at The Basement in Artica (Pamplona) by Iker Piedrafita and mastered at Golden Mastering Ventura (California), The World Is a Stage features guest Aurora Beltran, honorary and producer himself of it, while its design has been made ??by the artist David Calvo Burgos.
