THE FIXX – Walkabout [Music On CD reissue] (2024), MP3+FLAC
Good news for ’80s music fans – as secondhand prices are high these days – Music On CD has reissued THE FIXX 1986’s album “Walkabout“, on of their best.
This English but USA based band is much more than a new wave / pop-rock outfit and always had a soft spot by fans of other musical genres, as at places their music is plenty of substance. This fourth THE FIXX LP was marked by a deliberate attempt to ‘uncomplicate‘ the group’s sound, without sacrificing the poignancy of the social messages in the songs.
That aim for catchiness was reflected on first single, “Secret Separation”, hitting the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart at Number #1 in July 1986. Great tune.
However, it’s in the ‘deep cuts’ where the album shines. As example, ‘Can’t Finish’ is one of the best The Fixx songs ever. The unique drum beat, pumping bass lines, fantastic jumpin’ rhythm guitars, and vocal effects all come together in what is a perfect ’80s rock&pop song.
