Hurt released his 6th studio album The Crux via Carved Records. The lead single How We End Up Alone was a perfect example of what you might expect.
The Crux is a creative masterpiece , both conceptual and musically rich, exploring the human condition. It is an unique musical journey darker and heavier than previously. Track Eden illustrates this feeling. The striking opening track, So When gives the atmosphere for the rest of the album. The frustations , the anger are perfectly expressed by an outstanding musicianship.

Grammy Award winning rock legend Joe Walsh goes on record discussing his first solo album in two decades, Analog Man, out June 5 via the video chat below. Analog Man is both modern and timelessly soulful, packed with Walsh’s beloved wit, charm and chops; it delivers an incredibly raw and intimate sound.

“It’s been 20 years and I have a lot to say,” said Walsh. “These songs come from the heart.”

Star Mafia Boy – Arcana Cabaret 2012

I will not join the ongoing discussion about whether the new album from Star Mafia Boy, Cabaret Arcane is the best of his career, since, as I said in some places, that’s like asking a parent which of their children wants more. What if I have very clear is that what you are doing this currante of Rock’n’Roll is not available to many artists, either in this country or beyond our borders.

I want to emphasize, that if the Arcana is for me his album more Guitar Mafia, with that which has always been cocky, but with a kind of look back at the time of composing the songs. I guess it may be due to feelings of everyone but, as well Gunner said in his review, I think his solo album more Punk and more bad host.

Larry Tillery – Rockin’ The Blues (2012)

His new CD “Rockin’ The Blues” (released 2/1/2012) is a testament to the Texas Style blues that have influenced him from an early age. Influences such as Freddie King, ZZTop and Stevie Ray Vaughan to mention a few.

Just like the first words in his song, Blues Gumbo, Larry Tillery was indeed “born in Beaumont”. Beaumont, Texas that is.

THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS – TROPPO 2012

is one band that takes post-apocalyptic rock to new levels. With energy-driven riffs and serious stage presence, they are crafting a distinct and impressively mature sound for BC’s alternative independent scene.
The 5 piece collective hails from Vancouver, a city steeped in post-rock sound, and brings a real talent for writing songs that display each individual’s artistic merit.

Self-described as a combination of “robot rock rhythms and riffs of Queens of the Stone Age, the alt-rock/hardcore of Fugazi, the prog-metal leanings of Tool, the sparse, accessible arrangements of early U2, and those tell-tale “post-rock” chords commonly associated with Isis,” The Next Hundred Years really do have their own sound ; one that’s gaining momentum.

Ever since being selected as the Fox Band of the Month on BC’s Home of Independent Music, the band has received airplay and was invited to showcase at The Roxy, to the delight of their steadily growing fan base.

Moonspell – Alpha Noir 2012

Portuguese gothic metallers MOONSPELL will release their new album,“Alpha Noir”, on April 27 via the band’s new label home, Napalm Records.

The cover artwork for the CD — an intricate, marvellous and symbolic creation by Seth Siro Anton, the Greek artist who collaborated with the band on “Night Eternal” — can be seen below. Also available is a preview image of the strictly limited edition “Alpha Noir” deluxe box set containing the limited-edition double album mediabook, including two album covers, and “Alpha Noir”‘s counterpart “Omega White” and an exclusiveMOONSPELL logo pendant.

“Alpha Noir” deluxe box set track listing:

CD 1

01. Axis Mundi
02. Lickanthrope
03. Versus
04. Alpha Noir
05. En Nome Do Medo
06. Opera Carne
07. Love is Blasphemy
08. Grand Stand
09. Sine Missione

CD 2

01. White Omega
02. White Skies
03. Fireseason
04. New Tears Eve
05. Herodisiac
06. Incantatrix
07. Sacrificial
08. A Greater Darkness

Commented MOONSPELL frontman Fernando Ribeiro: “A true band has to have to a glorious past, a solid present and a bright future. More than that, a true band has to know how to live throughout all these seasons, dealing with their ghosts, their shadows, their aim at the light, moulding darkness with personality, with the impulse to be better, to do better while getting close to theirselves. Their true heart, soul and flesh.

“Never a MOONSPELL album came so close to be absolute like the new opus magna (masterpiece) ‘Alpha Noir’, scheduled to be proudly released by Napalm Records on April 27th, when spring racks through the wastes of winter, bursting new colours over familiar sights, once silent and white, now fiery under the blackest of suns.

“The concept of this new record, painstakingly composed by the Portuguese gothic metal knights over the past three years, after the public and critically acclaimed ‘Night Eternal’, is bulletproof. The band managed to split their heart and soul in half and the result is that they came even closer to themselves, the ambitious band they always were, with a undying wish not to claim any throne but to build their own ships that would take them and their fans to ‘give new worlds to the world,’ like in the age of discovery where the Portuguese were a leading force in the world.

“With their country drowned in a corrosive crisis, MOONSPELL filled their lungs with pride and created an incendiary album, with nine outbursts of their rockiest and thrashier riffs made superiorly dimensioned by the reindivictative lyrical content and songs structure that take you by storm from the first listen on. MOONSPELL has tapped a notch into their energy filled gothic metal by adding a guitar wall forjed by timeless artists likeBATHORYKING DIAMOND or in a twist ofthe knive to old thrash metal legends like ONSLAUGHTMETALLICA early works or even TESTAMENTand ARTILLERY, making ‘Alpha Noir’ a truly surpring and fresh record where all the songs have a climax effect about them, an high tension charm that will for sure electricize audiences when played on a stage.

“Songs like the title track (‘Alpha Noir’), the infectious ‘Versus’, the wolf hymn ‘Lickanthrope’ or the Portuguese sung ‘Em Nome Do Medo’ (In The Name Of Fear) and the closing epic ‘Grandstand’, might get you a welcoming chilling of the past but make no mistake: ‘Alpha Noir’ is a leap of faith and belief in their writing skills and progressive musicianship.

“Together with ‘Alpha Noir’ packed in a deluxe and special edition on digipack, MOONSPELL and Napalm offers no live DVD, making-of or any kind of filler. Instead they put in the table another offerend: ‘Ómega White’, the musical twin of ‘Alpha Noir’, a collection of eight songs of pure atmosphere and shadow, close to their breakthrough album‘Irreligious’, in a just homage to their TYPE O NEGATIVE and SISTERS OF MERCY roots. Tracks like the erotic ‘Herodisiac’, the catchy ‘White Skies’ or the heartbreaking ‘Whiteomega’ will for sure keep you in dark company through a night of fear and loss, both soothing and provoking.

“Both masterpieces were produced and mixed by Tue Madsen, pre-produced by Benny Richter.

“Each song a jewel, each song a stronghold!

“Keep your watch and do not miss this new MOONSPELL record, for it is a true mortal sin to stay away from these eighty minutes of music, beautifully and violently craved by one of the most legendary and imaginative bands ever to surface the European scene. Do not forget to get your hands on this masterpiece and to watch the band live in the summer festivals around Europe. ‘Alpha Noir’/‘Ómega White’ will also be played in their entirety in Lisbon’s Campo Pequeno, that holds 5,000 fans, in their homeland Portugal in the most daring stage set and visuals the band has ever tried.”

MOONSPELL released a DVD, “Lusitanian Metal”, in December 2008 in Europe via Century Media Records.

The band’s latest album, “Night Eternal”, entered the national chart in Portugal at No. 3 and in Germany at No. 62. The follow-up to 2006’s“Memorial” was recorded at Antfarm studios in Denmark with producerTue Madsen (THE HAUNTEDDARK TRANQUILLITYHALFORD).

When the opportunity arose to write an original song for ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ film came our way, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song ‘Live To Rise’, which is also the only new song in the film.”

“The Avengers” original motion picture soundtrack, with score by Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning composer Alan Silvestri (“Captain America: The First Avenger”“Forrest Gump”, the “Back To The Future” trilogy) will be available at online retailers on May 1.

Adam Kaspar, who co-produced SOUNDGARDEN‘s last record, 1996’s“Down On The Upside”, has been working with the group on the new effort as well.

When asked how he would compare SOUNDGARDEN‘s new material to the group’s previous efforts, Cornell told Australia’s rock station Triple M, “It sounds like SOUNDGARDEN, but I wouldn’t say it’s similar. I think there are parts of it that are gonna remind anybody of us, but we’ve always kind of progressed from album to album. So it’s definitely not a throwback. It’s not us getting back to our roots — it’s not that — it’s just kind of a natural progression, I think.”

SOUNDGARDEN released a CD/DVD retrospective set in September 2010 called “Telephantasm”, featuring singles, album cuts, live material and the previously unavailable “Black Rain”, which has been nominated for aGrammy Award.

SOUNDGARDEN‘s first-ever official concert album, titled “Live On I5”, sold 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart. The set is compiled of live tracks from a 1996 West Coast tour by the band and is named after the Interstate 5. SOUNDGARDEN had intended to release the tapes of these shows as its first live album shortly after the tour, but the group ended up disbanding and the tapes were left in the studio, untouched for years.

Kee Marcello – Redux ; Shine On (2012)

Posted on April 20, 2012 in Melodic Rock | AOR by Alex F
Tags:

KEE MARCELLO is one of those artists who is able to turn his hand to anything without fear.
He started his career in 1982 with the glam rock band Easy Action recording two albums. In ’86 he joined Europe and toured the World three times. His name as a renowned guitarist was established and the time was ripe for the release of an instructional video. One year later came the bluesy-rock project Red Fun.

Then was time for his solo debut album, 1995’s “Shine On”. As said, he has played many genres without fear, and in this first effort as solo artist, Kee goes Melodic Rock.
This recording sees Marcello in a more intimate way, delivering a good bunch of tunes with a much mellower approach than in his previous bands. Not in vain the original release cover of this album pictures him sporting a big acoustic guitar.
Now, Kee is releasing a remastered and repackaged version of this CD as “Redux : Shine On”, including three bonuses.

Back in the day I liked this album alot, and I like it now.
Includes some truly good laid back Melodic Rock songs, beautifully crafted around organic melodies. Marcello’s vocal timbre fits this style nicely, it’s warm and affectionate.
We have some rockers too with Kee showing his six-string abilities, not in a flashing way but with a classic style and sound.
The three bonus tracks are outtakes from the “Shine On”s recording sessions, not with the quality standards of the main album tracks, but all are a nice addition to your collection.
Really Good.

01 – When The Rain Comes Falling
02 – Shine On
03 – Sweet Little Sister
04 – Rough Ride
05 – La Liaison
06 – Tonight Belongs To Us
07 – Credo (I Belive)
08 – The Wind Cries Your Name
09 – River Of Karma
10 – Fine Line
11 – Together Alone
12 – Magic Potion (Outtake) [Redux bonus]
13 – Call Me (Outtake) [Redux bonus]
14 – You’re The Most Beautiful (Outtake) [Redux bonus]
